New Westminster Police searching for suspect following unprovoked assault

AT approximately noon on Monday, September 12, New Westminster Police received a 9-1-1 call from someone who had been assaulted near the 700-block of 22nd Street. The caller said that a man had approached her and made sexualized comments before he assaulted her, knocked her to the ground, and kicked her. He then produced an item believed to be a knife and further threatened her.

Police searched the surrounding area for someone matching the suspect’s description, however, no suspect could be located. The victim was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

The suspect is described as male, approximately 30 years of age, standing 5’7” tall, with a medium build, and short black hair. He spoke with an accent. At the time of the assault the suspect was wearing a blue t-shirt and grey pants.

“We’re asking the public to help us identify this suspect,” said Staff-Sgt. Jeff Scott. “Please take a close look at the photographs. If this is someone you recognize, we ask that you call police.”
