North Vancouver RCMP seeking dash cam in fatal dog incident

NORTH Vancouver RCMP are seeking dash cam and witnesses in a fatal collision involving a commercial vehicle and a dog.

On Friday, May 17 at 11 a.m., police received a report of a dog that was run over by a commercial vehicle at the intersection of West 3rd Street and Forbes Avenue. A man and his leashed dog were waiting to cross Forbes Avevue on the south side of West 3rd Street when a commercial vehicle making a turn jumped the edge of the sidewalk and ran over the dog. Sadly, the dog named Sweety did not survive its injuries.

The commercial vehicle failed to stop after the collision and continued south on Forbes Avenue. The commercial vehicle is described as a dump truck-style vehicle that had two dump beds as a trailer attachment.

“The owners of Sweety are devastated by the loss of their pet,” said Constable Mansoor Sahak, Media Relations Officer for North Vancouver RCMP. “Our investigation is ongoing and it is too early to tell if the driver intentionally fled the scene or if they had any knowledge of the collision at the time of incident.”

He added: “If you were driving or walking near West 3rd Street and Forbes Avenue on May 17 between 10:50 a.m. and 10:55 a.m. and saw the collision, then please call us at 604-985-1311 and quote file #24-9578. Police are also asking anyone with dash cam or surveillance video to come forward. Your dash cam may have captured something. Please check.”
