ONTARIO: Mohd Farhan and Jagrutiben Bhatt of Brampton charged in human trafficking investigation

ONTARIO’S Peel Regional Police investigators from the Specialized Enforcement Bureau’s Vice Unit have arrested and charged two individuals from Brampton with human trafficking and prostitution-related offences.

On September 13, officers commenced a complex investigation relating to victims involved in the sex trade within the Region of Peel.

It is alleged that the accused and co-accused recruited and exploited victims into the sex trade while keeping their earnings from them. Vice investigators conducted a proactive investigation, which resulted in locating victims being trafficked by the accused and co-accused.

23-year-old Mohd Farhan is charged with the following criminal offences:

  • Human trafficking
  • Exercise control
  • Receiving benefits resulting from trafficking in persons
  • Procuring
  • Derive material benefit from sexual services

44-year-old Jagrutiben Bhatt is charged with the following criminal offences:

  • Human trafficking
  • Exercise control (two counts)
  • Receiving benefits resulting from trafficking in persons
  • Advertise sexual services (two counts)
  • Procuring (two counts)
  • Material benefit from sexual services (two counts)
