REACTING to Chyrstia Freeland’s resignation from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s cabinet on Monday, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre said: “The Finance Minister [Freeland] is resigning in the middle of an economic crisis, and a fifth of his liberal caucus has lost confidence in him. Justin Trudeau has lost control and yet he clings to power. We cannot accept this kind of chaos, division and weakness while we’re staring down the barrel of a 25 percent tariff from our biggest trading partner and closest ally, which by the way, is headed by a newly elected president with a strong and fresh mandate; a man who can spot weakness from a mile away.”

He added: “Ms. Freeland has been Mr. Trudeau’s most trusted minister now for a decade. She knows him better than anyone, and she knows that he’s out of control.”

Poilievre said: “It is up to [federal NDP Leader] Jagmeet Singh now to make that realization. Mr. Trudeau is being held in office by one man, Jagmeet Singh.”

JAGMEET Singh said in a statement: “The withering resignation of Trudeau’s right-hand minister shows just how deeply this Liberal government’s members are obsessed with infighting, and ignoring the urgent challenges everyday Canadians are coping with.

“While the Liberals fight with each other, I believe we should be fighting for Canadian jobs at risk from [U.S. President-elect] Donald Trump’s tariffs. While Trudeau obsesses over his own drama, I believe we should be focused on the cost of homes and groceries that are burning up people’s paycheques and dimming hope.”

He added: “We’ll take no lessons from Pierre Poilievre, who gleefully licks his chops at Trudeau’s death spiral and Trump’s threats. Conservatives aren’t thinking about everyday people, either—they’re focused on making big businesses and ultra-wealthy CEOs richer at people’s expense.”

Singh said: “Canadians are sick and tired of watching government after government put themselves, their friends and corporate giants first. People deserve a government that fights for you for a change.”
