SIMON Fraser University is celebrating 20 years in Surrey with a campus-wide open house on Thursday, October 27, 4-8 p.m.

It will feature more than 100 interactive demonstrations and exhibits—from robotics and virtual reality (VR) demos to nitrogen ice-cream and laser displays—marking its impact on the city and region over two decades as a cornerstone of the new downtown core.

The SFU Surrey campus officially opened in 2002 and its 20 years of expansion have helped to catalyze the social, economic and urban development of Surrey’s city center.

Information sessions and interactive demos will showcase all eight SFU faculties, including Science; Health Sciences; Applied Sciences; Arts and Social Sciences; Communication, Arts and Technology; Education; Environment; and the Beedie School of Business.

Visitors can join in activities and demos, from quantum physics experiments to innovations in 3D printing.

Researchers and students from the schools of Interactive Arts and Technology (SIAT), Mechatronic Systems Engineering (MSE) and Sustainable Energy Engineering (SEE) will share their innovations in creative, health and clean technologies, and demonstrate how entrepreneurship is nurtured at the campus.

There will also be campus tours, live entertainment, prizes and more.
