THE Surrey RCMP Community Response Unit (CRU) recently arrested nine individuals in one day as part of an ongoing retail theft enforcement operation.

Throughout 2023, the Surrey RCMP-CRU has regularly conducted boost and bust operations that have resulted in numerous arrests and thousands of dollars’ worth of merchandise being recovered. This is the third boost and bust operation in 2024.

On April 27, the Surrey RCMP-CRU conducted its most recent operation at multiple stores in the Whalley area. Officers arrested nine suspects for a variety of charges including theft under $5,000. The recovered items included alcohol, batteries, flashlights, athletic apparel and duffle bags.

“As part of our ongoing retail theft prevention strategy, police partnered with loss prevention officers and security personnel from multiple businesses in North Surrey. Our common goal is to ensure a safe and crime-free environment for both shoppers and staff, and to ensure those who choose to steal are held accountable for their actions. Police will continue conducting targeted retail theft operations at locations throughout the city,” says S/Sgt Nigel Pronger of the Surrey RCMP-CRU.
