ON Saturday night, The VOICE received reports that there had been a violent incident at or near a Surrey gurdwara. But this newspaper could not verify the reports.

On Sunday, we were told that a man had been brutally assaulted at the gurdwara. (We will not name the gurdwara at this point in time, neither will we mention the alleged reason for that reported assault).

On Monday, The VOICE asked the RCMP whether they had received any complaint of an assault at that gurdwara.

Sgt. Tammy Lobb of the Surrey RCMP Media Relations Unit in an emailed statement said: “Surrey RCMP attended a Gurdwara on the evening of May 31, 2024 to execute a search warrant in relation to an ongoing investigation.”

She added: “As the investigation is in its early stages, we will not be providing further information at this time; however, we can confirm there is no risk to the public.”
