SUSAN Bains and Anthony Manning have been elected as White Rock city councilors in byelection on Saturday.

Bains got 694 votes (12.62% of the total votes cast) while Manning bagged 1003 votes (18.24%).

Bains wrote on her Facebook account: “I am beyond thrilled and grateful to be elected as your new City Council representative! This victory means so much, not only to me but to every woman, South Asian, person with a disability, and mother who has ever felt underrepresented or unheard.

“As the first female of South Asian heritage and person with a disability to hold this position, I am excited to bring a fresh perspective to City Hall. As a mother, I know the struggles young families face every day and I’m committed to making sure that your voices are not only heard but actively represented.

“This moment isn’t just about breaking barriers; it’s about creating real change that reflects the diversity of our community and the unique challenges we face. It’s time for a new era of leadership one where inclusion and equity are at the forefront, and every voice is valued.

“Thank you to my supporters, my family, and my community. This is just the beginning! Together, we’ll build a future that works for all of us.”
