ON January 2, 2022, members of the New Westminster Police Department responded to a report of shots fired in the 400-block of 12th Street. Multiple shots were fired into the residence and the suspects fled the scene.
Thankfully, no one was injured as a result of the shooting. Numerous specialty units assisted in collecting evidence, interviewing witnesses, and canvassing for CCTV footage.
After several months of investigation by the Major Crime Unit, three suspects were arrested and charges were approved relating to attempted murder and firearms offences.
In October of 2023, during his trial Justin Crowchild pleaded guilty to unlawfully discharging a firearm and possession of a firearm. Crowchild received a 729-day sentence for discharging a firearm and a six-month sentence for possession of a firearm.
“We are committed to protecting our community and keeping our neighborhoods safe from people who choose to shoot bullets into New Westminster homes,” said Sgt. Andrew Leaver. “The police and the community will not stand for such reckless actions.”
The trial of Danica Ulmer, who had charges approved in connection to this investigation, is still before the courts. The third person who had charges approved in connection to this investigation died before trial.
