THE Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) said on Tuesday that through extensive video canvassing, it has identified a suspect vehicle described as a black 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe in the July 27 homicide of Ravinder Samra which was parked in the hours leading up to the homicide on the west side of the 8100-block of Minler Road in Richmond with the suspects inside.

“Investigators have learned that multiple pedestrians were walking on Minler Road in the time leading up to the homicide,” said IHIT Sgt. Timothy Pierotti. “We’re asking anyone who was walking on Minler Road on the afternoon of July 27 who has yet to speak with police, to contact IHIT immediately.”

IHIT investigators are asking for any witnesses, or anyone with dashcam video who drove on Minler Road on July 27 between 12 p.m. and 6 p.m., or the area of the 12000-block of Blundell Road from July 27 between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m., to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.

On Thursday, July 27 at 5:45 p.m., Richmond RCMP received multiple reports of shots fired in the 8000-block of Minler Road. Frontline officers and BC Emergency Health Services (EHS) attended and located Samra, 37, suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite all efforts to revive him, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

A short time later, Richmond RCMP and Richmond Fire Department were called to reports of a vehicle found engulfed in flames in the 12000-block of Blundell Road. IHIT investigators believe this vehicle is associated to the shooting.

IHIT took conduct of the investigation and continue to work closely with the Richmond RCMP, Integrated Forensic Identification Services and BC Coroners Service.

Ravinder Samra was the brother of Amarpreet Samra of the United Nations gang who was shot and killed last May outside Vancouver’s Fraserview Banquet Hall where he had been at a wedding reception.

“Mr. Samra was known to police and we believe this was a targeted shooting associated to the BC Gang Conflict,” IHIT spokesperson Cpl. Sukhi Dhesi said last week.
