THE Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) on Thursday released a photo of Masood Masjoody to advance their investigation into his suspicious disappearance.
IHIT said it is working in close partnership with the Burnaby RCMP and the Integrated Forensic Identification Services (IFIS) as the search for Masjoody continues.
On the evening of February 2, Burnaby RCMP launched an investigation into the whereabouts of 45-year-old Masjoody after receiving reports from concerned neighbours. Initial investigation by the Burnaby RCMP determined that his disappearance was out of character and that criminality was involved.
“Mr. Masjoody is known for his online presence and as a mathematician who previously worked in academia,” said Sgt. Freda Fong of IHIT. “A person’s background, lifestyle, and affiliations form a part of every IHIT investigation. As with all cases, it will be taken into consideration when identifying a motive.”
“We are aware of the impact Mr. Masjoody’s disappearance has had on his family, friends, and greater community. As the search efforts continue, investigators are providing updates to family as they become available.”
Anyone with information is asked to call IHIT at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448), or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
