TELUS is investing $21 million in Surrey this year to expand coverage of the world’s fastest wireless technology, extend the reach of its Internet-based TV service, and wire hundreds of local homes directly to blazing-fast fibre optic cables.
This significant investment is part of a $3 billion, three-year commitment to invest in B.C. made last year and builds upon the $29 billion TELUS has already invested in operations and technology throughout the province since 2000. By the end of this year, TELUS will have invested $97 million in new technology and infrastructure in Surrey since 2009.
“TELUS’ significant $21 million investment means people and businesses right here in Surrey will have even more access to faster Internet, the world’s most advanced wireless technology, and our Internet-based television service, Optik TV,” said John Leckman, TELUS customer solutions deliver director for the community. “Our sustained investment in technology and infrastructure in Surrey and across B.C. has already made us one of the most connected communities anywhere in the world. This year TELUS continues that legacy, once again getting to work to connect ever more British Columbians to advanced communications infrastructure and all the benefits it creates.”
TELUS’ investment in communities extends past providing customers with world-class technology. As members of every community TELUS services, TELUS, our team members and retirees give where we live, supporting grassroots and community organizations across B.C.
“At TELUS we truly see ourselves as members of each community where we operate across B.C., and we recognize our investment in local organizations is as important as our investment in technology and infrastructure,” continued Leckman. “Our simple philosophy, We Give Where We Live, has encouraged our TELUS family of 25,000 employees and retirees in B.C. to donate over $100 million and, more importantly, volunteer 2.66 million hours to community and charitable organizations since 2000. Here in Surrey our team has contributed more than $1.3 million and 178,000 hours to local charities and community organizations in that time.”
The capital investment disclosed in this release is consistent with TELUS’ overall capital expenditure guidance for 2013.
