A four-day project by Metro Vancouver Transit Police designed to address crime and safety in and around Metrotown SkyTrain Station in Burnaby resulted in numerous arrests and seizure of a variety of weapons and drugs.
During the month of July, officers from the Transit Police Crime Suppression Team (CST) spent four days working in uniform and plainclothes in the area surrounding Metrotown SkyTrain Station, including the adjacent bus loop, Metropolis at Metrotown shopping centre, and nearby businesses.
This was the second such project conducted by the Transit Police CST this year, following the success of a similar three-day targeted initiative in mid-April.
As a result of the four days of targeted police action in July:
* 56 individuals were arrested for reasons that included weapons possession, drug possession and 21 outstanding warrants
* 78 grams of fentanyl, 15 grams of cocaine and 70 grams of marijuana were seized
* Various weapons were seized, including bear spray, brass knuckles, a replica firearm and 21 knives
* $5,036 in stolen merchandise was recovered
Metro Vancouver Transit Police said it continues to work closely with Metropolis at Metrotown security to address issues of theft and safety in the above-mentioned area.
