SURREY City Council this week celebrated the completion of two new turf fields at Cloverdale Athletic Park, marking the first phase of more than $12.3 million in improvements that include new road access and a new parking lot at one of Surrey’s premier sports destinations.

“Whether it’s a child attending practice, a local team competing in a weekend tournament, or families cheering from the sidelines, these new turf fields will help more people enjoy sports year-round,” said Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke. “This investment helps meet the growing demand for quality recreational facilities while strengthening Surrey’s ability to host sporting events that benefit our local economy and community.”

Design and construction of these fields began last fall to replace the grass fields that are more susceptible to weather-related closures following heavy rain.

Cloverdale Athletic Park is 50 acres, making it a hub for sports in Surrey. Amenities include ball diamonds, basketball court, multi-use sport box, playgrounds, bike park, water playground, tennis courts, multiple fields (grass and synthetic), and a field house with change rooms and washrooms.

A new 110-stall parking lot and a new fully signalized intersection are being added next to the new fields. These improvements are expected to be completed in November. Once complete, they will provide access to Surrey United Soccer Club’s new indoor practice facility being built in the park following Council’s approval of a 30-year lease with the club.
