VANCOUVER Police are investigating a serious assault on the Downtown Eastside early Friday morning.

Officers were called to reports of a man in critical medical condition near Main and East Hastings streets just after 1:30 a.m. The man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Investigators believe the suspect and victim knew each other. There is no public safety risk at this time.

No arrests have been made and the investigation remains ongoing.
