Vancouver Whitecaps: Saturday’s crucial match against Portland Timbers sold out

VANCOUVER Whitecaps FC announced on Thursday that Saturday’s crucial home match against Portland Timbers has sold out. Kickoff for this rivalry match at BC Place is set for 7:30 p.m.

With only five home matches remaining after Saturday’s game, fans are encouraged to secure their tickets early to be a part of the ‘Caps push for the playoffs, including a pair of vital games in the next 10 days in which the club will be hosting and recognizing two members of the 1979 North American Soccer League Soccer Bowl winning team.

Next Saturday, September 6, Whitecaps FC host Eastern Conference leaders D.C. United as the Blue and White will welcome back club legend ‘Wee’ Willie Johnston to BC Place.

Quickly following that match, rivals San Jose Earthquakes come to town on Wednesday, September 10, for another important match in the Western Conference playoff race. Prior to the match, long-time fan favourite Carl Valentine will be inducted into the Whitecaps FC Ring of Honour.

Whitecaps FC (7W-5L-12D) currently sit in the fifth and final playoff position in the Western Conference, two points ahead of the sixth place Timbers (7W-8L-10D).

Cascadia Cup update:

Whitecaps FC (CC: 2W-0L-1D) will be playing for the right to retain their Cascadia Cup title – a trophy created by the supporters groups of Portland Timbers, Seattle Sounders FC, and Vancouver Whitecaps FC to crown the best team in the Pacific Northwest. The ‘Caps currently trail Seattle (CC: 2W-1L-2D) by one point in the Cascadia Cup standings, but with a game in hand. Portland (CC: 0W-3L-1D) have been eliminated from winning the Cascadia Cup.
