VANCOUVER’S Khalsa Diwan Society has thanked Vancouver City Council members for supporting Indian farmers.
The Council approved a resolution, Solidarity with Indian Farmers, at their March 31 meeting. The motion, which was brought forward by Councillor Jean Swanson and supported by Khalsa Diwan Society, was passed by Council.
The resolution said: “Vancouver City Council stands in solidarity with the Indian farmers and directs the Mayor to write to the provincial and federal governments and ask them to support Indian citizen’s right to expression and liberty and accelerate the message of concern to the Indian government.”
Khalsa Diwan Society President Malkiat Singh Dhami said: “We also want to recognize the cooperation and support we received from other Gurdwara Societies and individuals from Vancouver and Lower Mainland area.”
