Yuvraj Singh arrested in last December’s shooting in Newton

THE ongoing investigation by RCMP Surrey Provincial Operations Support Unit’s Serious Crimes Unit (SPOSU SCU) into a shooting incident from December has resulted in arrests and charges against two individuals.

On December 16, 2024, Surrey Police Service (SPS) frontline officers responded to a call reporting that two people had been shot outside in the 12600-block 67B Avenue. Both victims were taken to hospital and treated for serious injuries.

The SPOSU SCU team took conduct of the investigation, and on January 29, Gagandeep Singh Bakshi was charged with a number of criminal offences in relation to the December 16 shooting in Newton.

On April 22, RCMP officers from the Quebec RCMP Integrated Border Enforcement team located and arrested 22-year-old Yuvraj Singh in Montée Glass, Quebec.  He has been charged in relation to this investigation with:

  • 1 count of attempted murder
  • 1 count of aggravated assault
  • 2 counts of discharging a firearm with intent to wound
  • 2 counts of assault with a weapon.

Yuvraj Singh is remanded in custody until his next scheduled court appearance on May 15.
