13-year-old seriously injured in e-scooter collision in Maple Ridge

MAPLE Ridge RCMP is investigating a serious collision involving an e-scooter and a motor vehicle in Maple Ridge on Monday evening.

On June 22 at approximately 5 p.m., officers on patrol were notified of a motor vehicle incident involving a child in the area of 232 Street and 124 Avenue.

Officers arrived on scene and located a young person laying on the sidewalk suffering from serious injuries. Officers provided initial first aid to the youth before alerting emergency health services. The 13-year-old victim was transported to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers learned that the youth was riding an e-scooter northbound in the area when it struck a grey Audi sedan that was parked along 232 Street and was attempting to pull into traffic. The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and is cooperating with police. Multiple people on scene were spoken to and officers canvassed for possible video surveillance in the area.

No criminality is suspected, however, the investigation is still ongoing. Of note, the youth was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
