Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke is Chair of Mayors’ Standing Committee
METRO Vancouver Board Chair Mike Hurley has set the Board Standing Committees and membership for 2026.
“The elected officials on Metro Vancouver’s Standing Committees guide the organization’s work,” said Mike Hurley, Chair of the Boards of Directors, on Thursday. “Their discussions and attention to detail help the Metro Vancouver Boards make sound decisions and deliver outstanding value as we provide essential services to over three million residents.”
In 2026, 14 standing committees will consider the priorities, policies, and activities for Metro Vancouver, and provide advice and recommendations to the Boards. Members of the committees are elected officials from Metro Vancouver’s 23 local government members. Standing committees are established by the Board Chair, with input from the Governance Committee.

In 2025, Deloitte Canada completed an independent Board Governance Review examining Committee and Board structure, compensation, and decision-making processes. The review confirmed Metro Vancouver’s governance is strong and recognized as a leader in regional planning and infrastructure delivery, while also recommending areas for improvement. Metro Vancouver has implemented 15 of 47 recommendations to date, with more underway through the Governance Committee. The status of implementation of the Board Governance Review recommendations may be viewed at the Board Governance Review Tracker.
