3 people stabbed at New Westminster casino, 1 suspect arrested

ON Saturday, October 26 at approximately 12:29 a.m., New Westminster Police officers responded to a 9-1-1 call about a stabbing at a restaurant located inside the Starlight Casino.

Patrol officers located three victims who had suffered serious but non-life-threatening lacerations. The victims were provided first-aid at the scene and transported to hospital.

Police learned that an altercation took place between two groups of people on the patio of the restaurant inside the Starlight Casino. Two groups of people who were not known to each other became involved in a fight with edged weapons. One suspect was arrested at the scene with the help of witnesses.

Police are working to identify and locate the other suspects. Investigators spent the next several hours gathering evidence in and around the scene.

“At this time, we believe this is an isolated incident,” said Sgt. Andrew Leaver. “Within minutes of receiving the call to 9-1-1, our officers located and arrested one suspect. We’re asking for the public to help us in identifying the other individuals involved in this altercation.”

The New Westminster Police Department are requesting anyone who witnessed the incident to share with police what they saw. Additionally, detectives are asking people who have cell phone video from the Starlight Casino between the hours of midnight and 1 a.m. to call the Major Crime Unit at 604-529-2430 or email mcucrimetips@nwpolice.org.
