ONTARIO’S Peel Regional Police have arrested and charged a 25-year-old Mississauga man following an investigation into the sale of fraudulent automobile insurance policies.
Investigators allege that between April 2024 and August 2026, the accused sold fraudulent automobile insurance policies and knowingly provided victims with falsified proof of insurance documents across the Greater Toronto Area. To date, police have identified 15 incidents connected to the scheme, with reported victim losses exceeding $10,000.
The accused was previously licensed to sell insurance and had been employed by several insurance brokerages. Investigators believe he continued selling insurance policies after he no longer had the legal authority or licence to do so. Victims were provided with insurance documentation that appeared legitimate, leading them to believe they had valid coverage.
On August 26, Muhammad Raahim, 25, was arrested and charged with:
- Defraud the public
The accused was released with conditions and is awaiting a future court appearance.
Members of the public are reminded to exercise caution when purchasing automobile insurance and to verify that insurance providers, brokers, and agents are properly licensed before making payments or relying on proof of coverage documents.
