BC RCMP are taking another step in the modernization of their operational uniform with the phased introduction of new navy-blue uniform shirts for frontline officers across British Columbia.
Beginning in October, frontline BC RCMP officers working in frontline positions at detachments will begin wearing the new navy-blue uniforms, replacing the traditional grey uniform shirts. The national rollout of the new uniforms began in the spring of 2025 and has been extending on a province-by-province basis over the last 12 months, with shirts becoming available to officers as part of the scheduled national distribution plan.
During this transition period, members of the public may see RCMP officers wearing either the traditional grey uniform shirt or the new navy-blue version while on duty. Both uniforms are official RCMP attire, and officers may continue to wear the grey shirts or the navy-blue shirts for the foreseeable future.

Major crime investigators and police officers from specialized units such as Emergency Response Team (ERT), Uniform Gang Enforcement Team (UGET), Underwater Recovery Team (URT), etc. will continue to wear their current unit-specific uniforms or plain clothes as required.
The BC RCMP recognizes that a change in uniform appearance may lead to questions from the public. While there have been recent incidents involving individuals impersonating police officers, the RCMP encourages anyone with concerns about an officer’s identity to ask for official identification.

Members of the public are always welcome to contact their local RCMP detachment’s non-emergency line to verify or confirm whether an RCMP officer is working in their area.
The RCMP say the new uniform shirts are part of their ongoing efforts to modernize their uniform while maintaining the professionalism and public trust that Canadians expect from their national police service.
