Langley RCMP arrest man for hate-motivated assault

A 23-year-old Langley man has been arrested and charged for an alleged hate-motivated assault.

On October 20, at approximately 3:30 p.m., police received a report from multiple witnesses of an assault on a mother and her children by a man near Douglas Park in Langley City.

It is alleged that the accused assaulted the mother and her two children and uttered racial slurs. Multiple witnesses observed the incident and contacted the police. The suspect fled prior to police arrival.

On October 21, officers from the Langley RCMP’s Special Response Team arrested a man closely matching the description of the suspect, who was held in police custody to appear before a judge.

On October 22, the BC Prosecution Service formally charged Braden Perozny, 23, of Langley with three counts of assault, and three counts of committing an offence motivated by hatred.

“This was a deeply concerning incident, and our thoughts are with the woman and her family as they continue to receive support from Langley RCMP Victim Services,” says Cpl. Mansoor Sahak of Langley RCMP. “We appreciate the members of the public who came forward to assist and provide information to investigators.”

Perozny is currently in custody awaiting a bail hearing. Anyone with information regarding this incident who has not yet spoken with police is asked to contact the Langley RCMP at 604-532-3200 and quote file # 26-33588.
