ABBOTSFORD Police say that on Thursday, September 10 at approximately 10 a.m., a Traffic Enforcement Unit officer was conducting speed enforcement on King Road near Bradner Road in a construction zone, adjacent to a school zone, when he observed a vehicle aggressively passing other motorists. The vehicle was detected travelling at 98 km/h in a posted 50 km/h zone.
Had the officer not been present, the 65-year-old driver would have entered the nearby school zone at nearly 100 km an hour. When asked why they were travelling at such a high rate of speed, the driver stated they needed to get to a bathroom. An excessive speeding ticket was issued and their vehicle was impounded for seven days.
“There is never an excuse for placing other road users, pedestrians, or children at risk through excessive speed. School zones are designed to protect some of our most vulnerable community members, and speed limits exist for a reason,” say Abbotsford Police.
So far this year, Abbotsford Police officers have impounded 329 vehicles for excessive speed.
