42-year-old man, two pets die in Surrey residential fire

SURREY RCMP are assisting Surrey Fire Services following a fatal residential fire in Surrey.

On Monday, January 22 at 3:22 a.m., police received a report of a structure fire in the upper residential suites of a commercial building in the 13400-block of 71A Avenue. Police arrived on scene as the Surrey Fire Department were evacuating the occupants of other suites.

Surrey Fire Department located a man in a suite and with the assistance of BC Emergency Health Services (EHS) performed lifesaving efforts. Unfortunately, the 54-year-old Surrey man did not survive. Two pets also died in the fire.

Surrey RCMP General Investigation Unit (GIU) investigated alongside the Surrey Fire Inspector, and have determined the cause of the fire was not suspicious.
