PREMIER David Eby on Friday said in a statement marking Holi:

“B.C. will be a little brighter today as people throughout the province celebrate Holi.

“The Hindu Festival of Colour welcomes the beginning of spring and celebrates good overcoming evil, new life and eternal love.

“People around the world celebrate by having bonfires, enjoying traditional foods and playfully throwing coloured powder and water at each other.

“B.C. is home to a vibrant and welcoming Hindu community, and there are several Holi events throughout the province that are open to all.

“These celebrations offer the perfect opportunity to learn more about the Hindu faith and culture, have some fun with family and friends, and let the bright colours bring joy and peace to all.

“I wish everyone who is celebrating a happy Holi.

“Holi Hai!”

PIERRE Poilievre, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, said: “Every year, the sounds, colours and spirit are unmistakable. Streets around the world are transformed with music, dancing and the vibrancy of colourful powders as billions of people come together.

“As friends, family and strangers alike are painted with gulal on Holi, Hindus celebrate the stories at the heart of their faith. Today offers spiritual renewal for the new year and a reminder of the strength we find in our communities.

“Just as the brightness of spring overcomes the darkness of winter, the brightness of Holi encourages us to look ahead with hope in overcoming the challenges we face.
