Sex offender arrested in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside

A registered sex offender who was wanted Canada-wide has been arrested in the Downtown Eastside following a month-long Vancouver Police investigation.

Officers from VPD’s Metro Team initiated an investigation in April to find 52-year-old James Hurlbut, who was wanted Canada-wide for sexual interference and indecent act.

A convicted sex offender since 2003, Hurlbut was required to register any change of address, but it’s believed he moved out of his previous residence and had been unaccounted for since last December.

VPD obtained a number of judicial authorizations and used other advanced investigative techniques to locate Hurlbut. He was arrested May 9 in the Downtown Eastside.
