Jaswinder Deol arrested and charged in 2024 fatal Abbotsford collision

OVER the past 16 months, the Abbotsford Police’s Major Crime Unit has followed the evidence, leading to charge approval in a case that tragically resulted in the death of 84-year-old Phil Anderson.

On June 8, 43-year-old Jaswinder Deol was arrested and charged with impaired operation causing death, operating a conveyance while impaired causing death, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death.

“Investigations of this magnitude are highly complex and require considerable time to reach the charge approval stage. Major Crime detectives worked in close collaboration with AbbyPD’s Traffic Enforcement Unit and ICARS to ensure the strongest possible evidence was presented to the BC Prosecution Service,” said Sgt. Paul Walker, Media Relations Officer, Abbotsford Police Department, on Tuesday.

“AbbyPD remains committed to identifying and removing impaired drivers from our roadways. Impaired driving has devastating impacts—not only for the families directly affected, but for the entire community.”

In a message, the Anderson family said: “Phil Anderson was a man deeply devoted to his family and community. His sudden passing came as a profound shock, leaving a deep void not only in the hearts of his loved ones, but also among his church family and colleagues at the Abbotsford School District. Phil embraced life fully, and even at 84, he continued to live with purpose and joy. We miss him dearly. During this incredibly difficult time, we are especially grateful for the support of the Abbotsford Police Department.”
