Sandeep Singh and Amandeep Mallhi arrested and charged in Calgary extortion

CALGARY Police announced on Monday that its Organized Crime and Offender Management (OCOM) Section continues to make significant progress in investigating a series of extortions targeting the South Asian community and two more men are now facing charges.

On Tuesday, May 5, a business located in the northeast community of Saddle Ridge received demands for money from an unknown person, who claimed the business owner, and their friends and family members would be shot if the victim did not comply. The victim contacted police, and members of the OCOM Section immediately began investigating.

On Thursday, May 28, investigators took four men into custody while officers also executed a search warrant on a residence located in the 0 to 100 block of Saddlestone Way N.E.

Two of the men have now been charged.

Sandeep Singh, 30, and Amandeep Mallhi, 39, both of Calgary, are charged with one count each of extortion and possession of proceeds of crime.

“We are making meaningful progress in this complex series of extortions, and these latest charges are a direct result of focused, coordinated and proactive police work. Each arrest reinforces our commitment to protecting Calgarians and sends a clear message to those involved in these crimes. Extortion will not be tolerated in our city and those responsible will be pursued, arrested and held accountable for their actions,” said Superintendent Jeff Bell of the CPS Criminal Operations and Intelligence Division.

Police said that since this series began in April 2025, there have been 46 extortion-related incidents in Calgary. Nineteen involved shootings at homes, businesses, or vehicles. To date, 14 individuals have been charged with 54 criminal offences in relation to the Calgary series.

The CPS continues to work closely with the Canada Border Services Agency and other law enforcement partners to address these incidents.
