ON April 6 at approximately 1:20 p.m., New Westminster Police patrol members responded to two separate 9-1-1 calls reporting a man striking a woman as they were walking along the street. Officers attended near the area of Nanaimo Street and 18th Street and located the man and woman. Officers arrested the man without incident, provided aid to the woman, and began interviewing multiple witnesses.
Officers say they want to thank the witnesses who called 9-1-1 as quickly as they did, allowing police to locate the suspect while he was still in the area.
“Our investigators work closely with our Victim Assistance Unit and community-based support services so victims in these situations get the information and care they require,” said Sgt. Jacquelyn Mula. “If something like this happens to you, you don’t have to navigate it alone.”
The New Westminster Police Department Victim Assistance Unit provides services 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Support is trauma-informed and tailored to each person’s needs.
