Abbotsford Police arrest youth in two armed street robberies

ABBOTSFORD Police announced on Tuesday that they have arrested a youth allegedly responsible for two armed street robberies in April.

Police said that over the past month, Major Crime Unit detectives worked diligently to advance this investigation and arrested the youth on May 14. A search warrant was executed at a residence associated with the youth, and the suspect vehicle was also located.

As this investigation involves a youth, police said that no further information could be released.

“Public safety remains our highest priority. We remain committed to working proactively and collaboratively with our community to prevent crime, hold offenders accountable, and ensure Abbotsford continues to be a safe place for everyone,” police said.

On April 14, Abbotsford Police patrol officers initiated an investigation into a street robbery that occurred at approximately 2:40 p.m. near the intersection of Maclure Road and Trethewey Street.

A second street robbery occurred on April 30 at approximately 8:09 p.m., along Discovery Trail near Abbotsford Exhibition Park.

In both incidents, a lone male suspect produced a firearm and demanded the victims’ jewelry. Although shaken, the victims were not physically injured during either robbery.

Investigators released an image of a suspect vehicle on May 7 and asked anyone with information about the suspect or the suspect vehicle to contact Abbotsford Police.
