ATTORNEY GENERAL Niki Sharma on Friday in a statement in response to Consumer Protection BC opening an investigation into complaints from people who purchased FIFA World Cup 2026 tickets from StubHub and did not receive them said: “Reports that people in B.C. purchased FIFA World Cup 2026 tickets from StubHub and did not receive them are deeply concerning. Major events like the FIFA World Cup 2026 should be an exciting experience and people should not have to worry about whether the tickets they purchased on StubHub will be honoured.

“I understand Consumer Protection BC, which independently administers B.C.’s Ticket Sales Act, is currently investigating these complaints to see if the law has been broken.

“While I cannot comment on this investigation directly, and StubHub has publicly committed to honouring its refund guarantees to fans, I want people to know they may have options available to them if they have been affected.

“The Ticket Sales Act promotes transparency and accountability in ticket sales and sets out when someone may be entitled to a refund. The act bans selling tickets that a business doesn’t actually own or control.

“I encourage people to contact Consumer Protection BC to learn more about their rights, potential refund options or to file a complaint.

“People should feel confident when buying event tickets. B.C.’s Ticket Sales Act is helping protect consumers, and Consumer Protection BC has taken enforcement action in the past, including reaching an agreement with StubHub to provide refunds to customers who did not receive clear and accurate information about their tickets for the December 2024 Taylor Swift concerts in Vancouver.

“We will continue to monitor this situation to support consumers and better understand the issues being raised.”

Quick Facts:

* People who bought tickets online or over the phone and did not receive them may have the option to cancel their purchase.

* Depending on the circumstances, cancellation can only take place 30 days from when the tickets were to be provided or the date of the event.

* Timelines can vary and consumers are encouraged to act as soon as possible.

* Once a purchase is cancelled, the ticket service provider must provide a refund within 15 days.

* If a refund is not received, consumers should contact their credit card provider to request a charge reversal.

* People who have followed the above steps and still have not received a refund are encouraged to contact Consumer Protection B.C. to file a complaint and learn about their options.
