BC Conservatives say Eby’s tax hike plan for wealthy will drive doctors away

THE BC Conservatives said on Sunday that David Eby’s tax hike plan for the wealthy will drive doctors out of our province at a time when British Columbians desperately need more doctors.

They said that Eby promised every British Columbian a family doctor by the end of 2025. Emergency rooms are still closing at night, and now he wants to tax the doctors and specialists every community is fighting to recruit.

The BC Conservatives said: “There is no problem the NDP don’t think can be fixed by raising your taxes. The Conservative Party of BC has committed to no new taxes, and a government led by Lorne Doerkson will make BC the place doctors choose to build their practice.”

They said that contrary to Eby’s earlier ‘preview’ of his tax hike plan, the NDP’s new scheme is not limited to those earning over $1million/year.

They pointed to the NDP’s news release:

• $190,405-$265,545 will go from 16.8% to 18.8%
• $265,545-$1m will go from 20.5% to 22.5%
• New $1million-plus tax at 24.5%
