Abbotsford Police Constable Allan Young not expected to survive his injuries

ABBOTSFORD Police on Monday announced that Constable Allan Young remains on life support in the BC interior and is not expected to survive his injuries.

According to Nelson Police, it appears that Young approached a man who was causing a disturbance in a roadway in Nelson’s downtown area early Thursday morning and a physical altercation ensued. Young received life-threatening injuries and remains in hospital in critical condition. A 26-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident.

Abbotsford Police said they continue to support Young’s family.

Abbotsford Police Chief Constable Mike Serr said: “Allan treated everyone with kindness and respect. He always had time for a laugh and a joke. Everyone that met Allan would walk away happier. Allan was never too busy for his friends and family and there was nothing he wouldn’t do to help. Allan had a zest for life that was unparalleled with a dedication and passion for policing and the Abbotsford Police Department. He will be missed.”

Abbotsford Police Sgt Judy Bird said in a statement: “We extend a heart-felt thank you to the first responders, medical staff and civilians who continue to assist Constable Young and his family and truly appreciate the support that we have received.”
