Abbotsford Police Gang Crime Unit seize vehicle, arrest youth who fled

ON Friday at approximately 5 p.m., members of the Abbotsford Police Gang Crime Unit (GCU) were conducting proactive patrols in west Abbotsford when they observed a blue Tesla travelling at 80 km/h in a posted 50 km/h zone.

Officers attempted a traffic stop near the intersection of Blue Jay Street and Blueridge Drive, but the driver failed to stop for police and fled the scene at excessive speeds. GCU members located the vehicle and apprehended the driver who was a youth.

Charges of excessive speed, driving without due care, and failing to stop for police were laid. In addition, the driver also received an 18-month driving suspension, and the vehicle was seized as offence-related property, pending forfeiture proceedings.

Abbotsford Police said that reckless driving and failing to stop for police are serious offences that will not be tolerated in the community. Officers continue to take a zero-tolerance approach toward youth engaging in these dangerous behaviours.
