About $16,000 worth of merchandise recovered from two shoplifters in Richmond

ON December 6, Richmond RCMP Property Crime Unit (PCU) officers were conducting proactive patrols in a local area mall when they allegedly witnessed two suspects shoplifting from a store.

As the two exited the store, police arrested them and recovered approximately $16,000 worth of merchandize.

“This investigation clearly demonstrates the level of financial impact shoplifting can have on a business,” says Inspector Michael Cohee, Officer-in-Charge of Richmond RCMP Investigative Services and Community Engagement. “We want our local businesses to know we are aware of the issue and are working diligently, using a multi-tiered response to address shoplifting in Richmond.”

Richmond RCMP will be conducting a variety of extra enforcement operations throughout the holiday season, including bike patrols in various business locations throughout the city.

Both suspects were released on police undertakings with conditions to not attend a local area mall in the 6500-block of No. 3 Road.

Charges are pending. This investigation remains active and ongoing.
