Air 1 helps Surrey RCMP nab 25-year-old motorcyclist speeding at 200 km/h

You can run, but you can't hide from Air 1!

The driver had his motorcycle impounded in another jurisdiction for excessive speed in March

ON May 24 at approximately 9 p.m., Surrey RCMP Gang Enforcement Team (SGET) was notified that Air 1 was following a motorcycle travelling at 200 km/h on King George Boulevard near 56 Avenue. The bike stopped at a red light and police officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop but the rider fled.

Police did not pursue the motorcycle, however, Air 1 continued to follow it to the 14900-block of 68A Avenue where it stopped. Police converged on the area and arrested a 25-year-old man for dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and flight from police. He was later released on an appearance notice with a future court date.

The motorcycle was seized as offence-related property and is being considered for the civil forfeiture process. In March, the driver had his motorcycle impounded in another jurisdiction for excessive speed.

“This kind of reckless driving behavior shows a complete disregard for the safety of everyone on the road,” said Media Relations Officer Cpl. Vanessa Munn. “The coordinated effort between Air 1 and SGET lead to the driver being taken into custody safely.”
