Alleged sexual assaults during BC Summer Games; RCMP seeks victims, witnesses

THE North Cowichan / Duncan RCMP are investigating allegations that some male athletes may have inappropriately touched a number of female athletes at an evening dance held on July 21 (Saturday) at the Cowichan Exhibition Centre during the Cowichan 2018 BC Summer Games.

The RCMP became aware of these allegations on Sunday morning.

“Our investigative efforts are focussing on confirming the events that took place, along with identifying all victims and alleged suspect(s).  The RCMP is mindful that these serious allegations likely involve persons under the age of 18,” said the RCMP.

“While we have initiated an investigation into these allegations, it is imperative that anyone who may have been a victim or witnessed the incident contact police so the matter can be thoroughly investigated,” said Staff-Sgt. Annie Linteau, BC RCMP Media Relations Officer.

Anyone who has any information about these allegations or may have been a victim, regardless of your place of residence, is asked to contact the Cowichan / Duncan RCMP at 250-748-5522.
