An 8-foot snake and weapons in Oppenheimer Park

VANCOUVER Police on Friday responded to a 9-1-1 call about a man using a machete in a fight at Oppenheimer Park and discovered multiple weapons and an eight-foot boa constrictor in a tent.

“Every call in policing is different, and this is a call responding officers will never forget,” said Constable Tania Visintin. “It was shocking for officers to find the snake, but the number of weapons they discovered is also very concerning.”

Police arrived in the park at around 12:30 p.m. The suspects in the fight had dispersed. Officers were directed to a tent by witnesses, where they initially found the snake and some weapons in plain view.

As the investigation progressed, officers found additional weapons. The following items were seized by police:

· one loaded shotgun

· one replica shotgun

· four replica handguns

· one crossbow

· multiple knives

· three machetes

· two axes

· one baton

· two wooden clubs with nails

· one baseball bat

Animal Services from the City of Vancouver responded to seize the snake.

One suspect is in custody in relation to the police call about the fight. The investigation is ongoing.
