Anees Mohammed, known to police, is Richmond homicide victim

THE Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is calling on the public to help further its investigation into the shooting death of a man in the Steveston neighbourhood of Richmond.

On Thursday, January 7, at approximately 8:30 p.m., the Richmond RCMP responded to the area of Garry Street and Fentiman Place to find 29-year-old Anees Mohammed with gunshot wounds. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

IHIT is working with the I-Teams and the Richmond RCMP to gather evidence and further the investigation. Any businesses and residents in the area where the shooting occurred with exterior video surveillance footage and anyone with dash cam who was driving around the area at the time of the shooting is urged to contact IHIT immediately. Investigators also want to speak with anyone, who was in or near Steveston Community Park around the time of the shooting, that witnessed anything suspicious.

“Anees Mohammed was known to police and we believe he was targeted for murder,” said IHIT Sgt. Frank Jang. “This fatal shooting appears to be linked to the ongoing Lower Mainland Gang Conflict and IHIT will be working with its regional policing partners to mitigate any further violence.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
