THIS year for the first time the 12th Annual International Yudh Gatka Tournament will take place in Greenwood, Indiana. This means this year’s Yudh has reached the ultimate standing of a multi-national level competition. Competitors from all across the world will showcase their skills in a series of battles and demos to uphold the title as North American Yudh Champions.
Yudh will be taking place on Saturday, August 30 at Greenwood’s Gurdwara Sri Guru HarGobind Sahib (1050 South Graham Road, 46143) from 12-6 p.m.
The Indiana Sikh community hopes that this event will help raise awareness and promote a sense of tolerance and acceptance. Competitors are attending from California, Maryland, Texas, New York, New Jersey, Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver as well as the U.K. and India.
The program for this year is as follows:
There will be a Single Soti (Stick) competition for Singhs and Kaurs, and spinning competition.
There is over $10,000 in cash prizes to be won. A grand prize of $1,100 will be awarded to the winner of this year’s Yudh Gatka tournament.
The tournament is but another initiative to promote Sikhi, health, self defence and drug awareness on the part of the Canadian Organization of Sikh Students (COSS).
