A 36-year-old man has been charged after police were called about a person waving a knife at a busy East Vancouver intersection Wednesday morning.
A 9-1-1 caller reported a man waving a kitchen knife in the direction of passing cars near the corner of Clark Drive and East Hastings Street around 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 20.
When VPD officers arrived, the man stepped out onto the street with the knife in his hand and came at the officers. He refused commands to drop the knife and continued advancing on the officers.
“Our officers fired multiple rounds from a less-lethal shotgun, and deployed a taser during the arrest,” said Sgt. Steve Addison on Thursday. “The suspect was taken to hospital as a precaution, but has since been discharged and is now in jail.”
The arrest was captured on a passing driver’s dash-cam video and has been posted on social media.
Abolfazi Amini has been charged with assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
Amini remains in custody until his next court appearance.
