Arshdeep Bains of Surrey makes Canucks debut against Colorado Avalanche

SURREY’S Arshdeep Bains, 23, was signed by the Vancouver Canucks to an entry level contract in March 2022.

Bains finally made his debut for the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday night against the Colorado Avalanche in Denver.

Bains becomes the fourth player of Punjabi descent to play in the NHL after Jujhar Khaira, Robin Bawa and Manny Malholtra.

The Canucks lost 3–1 to the Avalanche. Bains had two shots on goal, three hits and a block in 13:21 of ice time.

Bains’ dad, businessman Kuldip Bains, was in Denver to watch his son.

Back in 2022, he told The VOICE how thrilled he was when he received news that his son was being signed by the Vancouver Canucks to an entry level contract. He said: “It’s just amazing! I can’t believe this is happening! It’s great!’

He added: “I am very proud of him. He’s done an amazing job.”

He said Arshdeep has drive and determination and works hard.

“There’s nothing more special than playing on your home team,” he added. “So, he’s so happy that it happened here and he’s with the Canucks and he’s very excited about that.”

Arshdeep Bains told the media in Denver: “It’s every kid’s dream to play for their hometown team.”
