ASHNIL Singh, 31, has been arrested and is now charged with multiple Criminal Code offences following a lengthy Surrey Police Service (SPS) investigation into an alleged shots fired incident at a Surrey Central residence last November that injured one person.
On November 23, 2025, at approximately 9:10 p.m., SPS frontline officers responded to a call of shots fired into a residence near 121 Street and 101B Avenue. Police confirmed that one female resident had been injured after being shot in the thigh and officers provided medical aid until BCEHS arrived.
SPS’s Major Crime Section (MCS) took the lead on the investigation. A suspect vehicle and suspect were identified, and as the investigation progressed, vehicles associated to the suspect were seized. Search warrants were obtained and the subsequent vehicle search located a firearm. It was determined that this firearm was involved in the November 23, 2025, shooting.
On May 13, 2026, an identified suspect was observed in the area of Ontario Street and West 33 Avenue in Vancouver and taken into custody with the assistance of the Lower Mainland District Emergency Response Team (LMD ERT), Lower Mainland Integrated Police Dog Service (IPDS) and SPS Strike Force.
Ashnil Singh has been charged with six Criminal Code offences that include:
- Discharge a firearm into a place, knowing or being reckless as to whether another person was present in the place.
- Use of a firearm, while committing, attempting to commit, or during a flight after committing or attempting to commit, the indicatable offence of recklessly discharging a firearm at a place.
- Carry or have in his possession a firearm for a purpose dangerous to the public peace or for the purpose of committing an offence.
- Possess a prohibited firearm, restricted firearm or no-restricted firearm, knowing that he was not the holder of a licence under which he may possess the firearm or knowing that he was not the holder of registration certificate for a firearm.
- Possess a firearm while he was prohibited from doing so by any order under this Act or any other Act of Parliament.
- Possess a firearm knowing that a serial number on it had been altered, defaced or removed.
Ashnil Singh has been remanded in custody. His next scheduled court date is May 15.
