B.C. Greens: Government should follow expert advice on Site C, halt construction

SONIA Furstenau, Leader of the B.C. Greens, said on Monday that the government should listen to the letter released by experts calling for the government to freeze construction on Site C while the geotechnical issues are reviewed.

“The government doesn’t even know how to address the problems that have been identified with Site C, much less how much those solutions would cost,” said Furstenau.

“The government should follow the advice in this letter and stop digging. We can’t keep throwing good money after bad, especially without knowing whether we can complete the project or what the final price tag will be.

“The B.C. Liberals started the Site C boondoggle, but the B.C. NDP had a BCUC report in 2017 that showed that clean power from other sources could be produced at a lower or equal cost to Site C. We called on them then to realize that this was a bad project and end it. Now the costs are spiralling out of control.

“The future of clean power in B.C. is small scale, renewable energy that provides good jobs and economic opportunities throughout the province. That both the B.C. Liberals and B.C. NDP thought going ahead with Site C was a good decision shows that they don’t understand this reality.”
