BC Conservatives 44.7%, BC NDP to 37.2%, BC Greens 11.2%: Mainstreet Research poll

THE latest snapshot of the BC election by Mainstreet Research shows the BC Conservatives leading and quite likely in majority territory. Among decided and leaning voters, the BC Conservatives lead the BC NDP by just under 8 points, 44.7% to 37.2% with the Green at 11.2%, One BC at 5.7% and Centre BC Party at 1.1% rounding out the field.

The current numbers are driven by an overwhelming disapproval of the snap election. With less than one in three voters approving (29.4%) and almost six in ten disapproving (59.3%) including a near majority strongly disapproving (46%) this election call by Eby.

“David Eby said he needed a mandate to deal with the threat of Donald Trump and he may regret it” said Quito Maggi, President and CEO of Mainstreet Research. “With a very short time to work with, the NDP find themselves behind quite badly. If the anger at the election call itself does not subside soon, BC could be headed toward a change of government for the first time in almost a decade.”

(An Angus Reid Institute poll, conducted October 1-3 showed that half (48%) of leaning and decided voters would vote for the BC Conservatives, while 43 per cent support the BC NDP. BC Greens’ support stood at 7 per cent.)

The analysis is based on results of a survey conducted September 30-October 1 among a sample of 827 adults, 18 years of age or older, living in British Columbia. The margin of error for the poll is +/- 3.4% at the 95% confidence level.
