FOLLOWING The VOICE’s story “Rustad commits to eliminating class 4 license requirement, risking numerous taxi and ridehail jobs” on Tuesday, the BC Conservative Party took down their “Policy Declaration (2023)” from their website and in an email to this newspaper said that it “is not related to the 2024 Election Platform of the Conservative Party of British Columbia.”
The party said: “Conservative Party Leader John Rustad did not commit to eliminating class 4 license requirement in British Columbia, and he did not write this document. This document is produced at the Annual General Meeting of the Conservative Party based on members’ input. It is NOT related to the election platform of the party.”
The party added: “This is yet another lie by David Eby’s NDP who want to lie, manipulate, and deceive people in Surrey. The reality is Eby has delivered no hospital, insufficient schools, and exorbitant cost of living increases in Surrey — he has to lie to try to score political points”.
The BC Conservative Policy Declaration document on the party’s website had stated: “The Conservative Party of BC will reform ride sharing legislation to allow drivers with a class 5 license to operate as mandated in other provinces and as how ride sharing companies intended.”
