The Federation says there will be a rally on Tuesday, December 22 at 6:30 p.m. in Surrey at Nordel Way and Scott Road (near the KFC) and asks supporters to bring their mask and a sign that says #BCLabour4Farmers.
THE BC Federation of Labour says it stands in solidarity with the millions of farmworkers and worker activists across India “who are peacefully protesting devastating agricultural reforms that jeopardize the ability of farmworkers to support themselves and their families.”
It says: “The legislation deregulates agricultural markets and favours corporate interests over those of small food producers through measures such as removing minimum support pricing. Farming is one of the most important sectors in the Indian economy, accounting for more than 40 per cent of the workforce.
“The worker protests have grown to be the largest in history, with hundreds of millions of people participating. This is an unprecedented exertion of worker power and solidarity. The BC Federation of Labour has connections to workers across the globe. And we are all connected in our desire for respect and dignity for workers.
“These protests have been met with unacceptable violence and use of force by police. We support the right to peacefully protest and condemn the use of force to silence workers’ voices.”
The Federation suggested: “You can share messages of solidarity on social media using the hashtags #standwithfarmerschallenge or #farmerprotests, and by updating your profile with the “Thank a Farmer” frame.
“Create and share a selfie video using the hashtag #BCLabour4Farmers asking @narendramodi, India’s Prime Minister, to repeal the agri-bills and bring back minimum support pricing.
“Attend a local demonstration.”
