BC Liberal Leader Kevin Falcon released the following statement on Saturday for Ramadan:

“This evening at sundown marks the start of Ramadan, a month of fasting and prayer for Muslims throughout British Columbia and around the world.

“Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, is an important time for spiritual reflection.

“Countless Muslims in British Columbia stepped up during the COVID-19 pandemic and exemplified the important values of patience, empathy, and charity that are the focus of Ramadan. Nowhere is this more evident than in the work of Islamic communities in promoting vaccinations, translating COVID-19 resources, and distributing food hampers. They demonstrated remarkable leadership in our province’s efforts to curb the pandemic.

“After two years of virtual prayers and iftars, I am thrilled to see in-person celebrations can now return as mosques and families are once again able to celebrate together and we send them our warmest wishes during this sacred time.

“On behalf of the entire BC Liberal team, I want to wish the Muslim community here in British Columbia peace and happiness during this special month.

“Ramadan Mubarak!”
